Ears Ears Ears
When it comes to Nolan and sickness lately I feel like I’m just winging it or guessing. Nolan was sick the week before Christmas with bronchiolitis and a double ear infection. He completed his 10 day round of antibiotics and he appeared to be feeling better.
For about a week now, he has been waking every few hours in the night fussing or screaming. We assumed it was teeth. So we offered ibuprofen for comfort. His nose has been running but then again so is everyone’s nose in his class. Last night after a bath I noticed fluid/gunk coming out of his right ear. We decided to take him to the Walk-in clinic to check it out.
The Nurse Practitioner that we saw looked in the left ear first and said that he had an ear infection in that ear. I wanted to shout wait we are here for the right ear! He attempted to look in the right ear but there was so much pus/gunk/whatever that he couldn’t see the eardrum. He said that it was perforated obviously also infected. He doesn’t have a fever.
We went home with a steroid for his nose and mucus and augmentin for the ears. We go back Friday to see his pediatrician. Friday was already our follow up appointment for his ears from our last visit.
On a happy note, I think that his blocked tear duct has opened. The eye isn’t’ gunky anymore especially with all this mucus it should be pretty bad. It appears to be clear but we still see the eye specialist on Friday too. I would love for him to be like “and why are you here?”
Let’s see if he can keep down the medicine. That is a whole other blog post!
