Can’t Drink
I’ve never been much of a drinker unless it’s top shelf vodka or tequila. Lately I’ve been having crazy reactions when I do have just half a drink. My palms sweat, suddenly I am wearing too many clothes, and my extremities swell. Also I am dizzy and have trouble making a complete thought. Why? Why does half a glass make me feel drunker than my 21st birthday?
It’s my Metformin. Alcohol raises the blood sugar quickly and then drops it quickly. Metformin lowers my sugars quickly. So basically I’m not drunk, I’m just an instant hypoglycemic. It raises and then I feel like a sloshy drunk and then drops so I feel like I’m going to pass out.
I have decided to give it up ( occasional drinking) because it’s just not enjoyable. I just have a really bad reaction to alcohol. It doesn’t matter if I skip my meds. Just having it in my system seems to have the same effect.
